A Sustainable Christmas

1750's cottage in Suffolk

Trevor Pickett bought this cottage dating from the 1750's two years ago, having down-sized from a larger property nearby with a much larger, more demanding garden. With the help of his local friendly builder, Trevor reconfigured the beamed interior turning the garage into a third bedroom and opening out the living room to create a spacious book-lined seating area, with a circular table providing an alternative to kitchen suppers - Trevor is a great cook and Christmas gives him the excuse to entertain his many friends in the area. The existing conservatory or 'Morning Room' as Trevor jokingly refers to it was made cosier by having some of the glass sections blocked up, with shiplap added to the exterior. The cottage is unrecognisable now - necessities for civilised life such as a drinks cupboard with fridge, utility room and downstairs loo are shoehorned into what was formerly redundant wasted space.
