Hidden gem

Charming property in Old Portsmouth

When Amber and her husband Thomas relocated from Oxfordshire to the south coast, they were thrilled to stumble across this hidden gem.  Not only is it tucked away down a quaint cobbled street in a charming, historic part of Old Portsmouth, the property is also just a stone’s throw from the water’s edge.  Having instantly recognised its vast potential, in 2012 the pair snapped the house up and began their ambitious 18-month project to totally gut the property and create a stunning, loft-style home.  Sound recordist Amber and portfolio manager Thomas have poured their hearts and souls into renovating the dated house that hadn’t been touched since 1975.  It’s been totally reconfigured and is now a much-loved home that cleverly combines charming character with contemporary style.  The property, which was built in 1820, has a rich heritage. It was once a boat warehouse, then a stables and later became an antiques shop before being turned into a house. Amber and Thomas love their coastal lifestyle and have done a fantastic job of bringing this tired and neglected property into the 21st Century.
