Teenager's dream

Home and garden renovation project in Lincolnshire

When Emma Hatfield Watkins’ husband, Iain, was a teenager, cutting his neighbour’s lawn to earn pocket money, he never imagined that, one day, he would find himself buying the characterful house he’d often admired from across the garden. Captivated by the tranquility and charm of this idyllic, rural location, a year later, when the couple discovered that the house they were living adjacent to,was going on the market, they instantly snapped it up. Having dug deep, Emma, an interior designer, and tree surgeon Iain, pooled resources to weave their magic throughout every room. “Although the house was lovely, most of the fireplaces had been blocked up during the 1970s, and, somehow with all the changes that had occurred over the years, it seemed to have lost its identity,” Emma confides. Since moving in, Emma and Iain have poured their hearts and souls into totally renovating every inch of this property, to create a home full of unusual antique pieces and treasured finds. “We love both the house and gardens,” says Emma. “It’s wonderful to see our children running carefree across the freshly-mown lawns with our dog, Hattie. It was clearly a great investment of Iain’s time all those years ago.”
