A Village in London

Victorian family house in Walthamstow Village

Marisa Daly and her partner, literary agent Jonathan Conway bought this 3 bedroom Victorian house in Walthamstow Village four years ago. Situated within a short walk of the Underground, the location was convenient yet surprisingly quiet given that it is just 30 mins from Oxford Circus.  The house had been a rental property for some years and required a total refurb before the couple moved in.  As an interiors stylist, Marisa opted for a limited palette of varied greens to give the interior a unified sense of calm but she used her love of pattern to add decorative interest by means of fabric, wallpaper and tiles.    The kitchen was re-configured and extended, creating space for an informal dining area adjacent to French windows opening onto the deck and the west-facing garden.   Doors between the front and rear reception rooms were removed giving the living area a more open look - the fire-surround in the rear part was copied to match the one in the sitting area and floor to ceiling bookshelves built into the alcoves accomodate Jonathan's ever-increasing library.  The dining table doubles as a desk - useful for when Marisa is drawing up plans for schemes. Additional work-space is to be found in the room the couple built at the end of the 100ft garden - especially useful since the arrival of Phoebe 2, and Reuben, 6 months.   Upstairs, the walls of Reuben's bedroom are papered in a decorative Brunschwig toile design whilst the blind in Phoebe's room was recycled from a curtain in a Bennison print made for Marisa's old flat.  Against the subtle backdrop of a Neisha Crosland wallpaper, the focal point of the main bedroom is the oversized bedhead covered in a foliage print by Michael M Smith.  Furniture throughout is a mix of antique and vintage with pieces such as the green Designers Guild sofa and Ikea circular kitchen table adding a contemporary slant here and there.
