Quintessentially British

14th century Manor House in Kent

Built in the 14th century Battel Hall stands in the grounds of 900 year old Leeds Castle in Kent.  Leeds Castle has been a Norman stronghold; the private property of six of England’s medieval queens; a palace used by Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon; a Jacobean country house; a Georgian mansion; an elegant early 20th century retreat for the influential and famous; and in the 21st centre, it has become one of the most visited historic buildings in Britain. Battel Hall has been newly restored with interior design by Francesca Rowan-Plowden who decorated the Manor House in an English eclectic style with bold colours and country house fabrics.  Only British fabrics and wallpapers have been used.  There is hand painted de Gournay wallpaper in the morning room, Lewis & Wood “Doves” wallpaper in the master bedroom with “Alhambra” curtains, and the bold Farrow & Ball “Book Room Red” paint has been used in the Peony bedroom.  Francesca sourced everything herself, much of it from Ardingly Antiques Fair.  There are 5 ensuite bedrooms and 3 receptions and the house is available for rent, sleeping 10.
