Elegant Utilitarian

Small but clever flat in Belgravia

Fashion designer, traveller and mother of three daughters, Helen Bromovsky, has homes in Somerset, Turkey and Austria and a tiny flat in Belgravia that she relishes as a retreat. It only has two bedrooms but the flat sleeps five with a clever, hidden bed in the wall and a divan that doubles as a bed in the living room. Helen’s own bedroom is an oasis overlooking the Mosimann Club garden at the back of the building. Small but full of light, the room is uncluttered and calm because all the storage is cleverly hidden above and below the bed. Throughout, Helen has complemented the flat’s simple, Georgian lines by hiding fridges, ovens and storage behind sleek, lacquered units either side of a central fireplace in the main room so it’s a clean, airy space. She can showcase her clothes and entertain and then transform the room into a family kitchen and living and sleeping area, making the flat work on a number of levels, practical, utilitarian but stylish and charming.
