Notting Hill house of painter Norma Miller

When American painter, Norma Miller, moved to London over 20 years ago, she wanted to find a house big enough to house her studio and with a big enough kitchen to cook in – Norma had spent years in Italy perfecting the art of risotto and has published several books on Italian cookery and food. She fell in love with Notting Hill and found a house that she loved but it was full of small rooms suited to conventional family life. In a bold move, Norma knocked out the back of the house to create a double-storey glass wall to give her the vast, light-filled kitchen she’d dreamt of. She converted the top floor into a studio by putting in skylights and extra windows. The she filled the house with antique treasures from Italy and sleek, custom built contemporary furniture, designed for comfort, which she combined with a serene palette of sky greys and watery blues. The result is exquisite contemporary elegance and sheer luxury.
