This Knightsbridge townhouse is a
relatively new home for the celebrated
designer and her husband, Sir Mark
Weinberg – Hempel is known as Lady
Weinberg outside the interiors world – who
also have a place in the Wiltshire countryside.
“We’ve been here about a year and a half.
We inherited it and we’re still finishing
it,” says Hempel.
What does she think makes the different
spaces she’s created around the world
recognisably ‘her’? “It’s the juxtaposition
of things, I think. It’s to do with height
and balance and how I see it. That means
playing around with huge volumes and
small volumes, having fun with lighting.
It’s light and shadow – and a bit of magic.”
