Positively Blue

Danielle Moudaber extraordinary South Kensington flat

Highly individual and full of creativity this ground and first floor home, formerly 2 flats, in Kensington, London, has been made into one by inserting a curvy plaster staircase to link the floors. The owners design echoes the 40's Hollywood style of the custom dining table, cornicing and the Serge Roche-style arch decoration all painted pristine white against sky blue. 'I am influenced by the movies, show time and stage sets,' says the owner a designer, photographer and furniture designer. Blue is the dominant colour in the flat from the kitchen marble worktops to the luxurious stair carpet and all the walls. Because the rooms are large she has commissioned furniture on a grand scale to suit the space and had her own photographs of statues shot in Rome made into 2.8 meter high lenticular prints. She collects pieces like the bedroom cabinet and floor lamp from English designer Mark Brazier Jones and buys interesting 20th century pieces in her former home, Lebanon.
