Renovated five storey family home in Notting Hill

American born interior designer Scott Maddux initially studied architecture, which stood him in good stead during the total renovation of this five storey family home in Notting Hill. His novel approach celebrates the building's best features but in an understated manner - plain fabrics at the bow windows , the original staircase carpeted with a subtle hand-dyed Turkish runner commissioned from Kate Blee. Unconventional details come in the form of the metal spiral staircase which links the ground floor and basement and the robust circular metal balustrade around the light-well on the floor above. Other commissioned features are the dazzling wardrobe doors in the main bedroom and the spectacular curved sofa which was designed for the room by Vladimir Kagan. His clients wanted comfort, they also wanted to display their art (she runs an art foundation providing access to art for disadvantaged children). and theirgrowing collection of 1950's artefacts and furniture. The decorative scheme accommodates the needs of a young family as well as frequent entertaining.
