Le Grand Moulin

Waterside mill in the Dordogne

Waterside mill situated on a tributary of the River Dordogne is home to British artist Gillian and her Dutch sculptor husband. The house underwent a complete overhaul after they bought it five years ago - the interior was reconfigured in order so as to take advantage of the view and increase the feeling of space and light - furnishings are simple with sofas covered in plain white cotton. Most of the glass doors slide back into pocket openings in the wall, with matching sliding shutters pulling out from the same recess. During the summers, the couple spend much of day outside - the shore of the lake was decked, and a shaded pavilion built by the water. The infinity edge swimming pool is sited on a raised terrace thereby maximising the view across wooded valley. Whilst Gillian is a committed artist and spends much of each day working in the newly built studio, her husband works in the open air on his monumental stone carvings.
