Contemporary Modernist

Prize-winning, contemporary family home on Suffolk

Prize-winning, contemporary family home on Suffolk coast belongs to interior designer with a special interest in lighting design. She and her husband bought the large, sloping plot on account of the view and location. Initially they planned to refurbish the existing property but after much deliberation they considered the result would never be more than a compromise. Consulted eminent local architects and instead built a modernist house centred around atrium and helical staircase. Details such as a children's play area being next to the kitchen and the children's bedrooms opening onto a second playroom upstairs make this a well thought-out child friendly home. Swimming pool and barbecue area was sited close to the house so that children can be kept an eye on whilst swimming and playing around the water. Windows fold back into walls allowing interior and exterior to become one during the summer, when the expansive terrace becomes the outdoor living room.
