Maison du Village

Renovated French townhouse with well-sourced antiques

It is quite rare to find a B&B that is so quiet, private and romantic, set within the ancient walls of a Provencal town. This 1750's restored townhouse (in St-Remy-de-Provence) with only 5 rooms, each arranged as a suite, is perfectly decorated in a contemporary French style relying not on fussy antiques but purely on plain colour. Entered via iron gates from the street there is a canopy of leafy branches to shade the gravel courtyard. The ground floor comprises a sitting room, dining room and kitchen. At the front is a further seating area and a little desk where guests are greeted into what feels exactly like a chic private home. Traditional tiled floors set the scene for a range of earthy violets, pink, raspberry, pistachio, rose and cream wall colours, the curtains, bedcovers and pillows in similar shades of pure linen. There is an art to furnishing and decorating with such simplicity and yet such is the atmosphere created by the choice of colour of fabric that one feels inspired to copy the look.
